Tie-breaks apply to participants with the same score. Their unique leaderboard position is determined by the date and time they submitted their most recent answer.
If participants are across multiple timezones, tie break functionality works relative to the users local time.
- For example, if User A in Dublin answers a question correctly at 9:01am, local time, and User B in Boston answers correctly at 9:00am local time, user B will be ahead in the leaderboard as they answered ‘first’ relative to their timezone.
The tiebreak option needs to be enabled on the Qstream. To ensure accuracy in reporting, we strongly recommend ensuring that all participants have their timezones correctly set prior to enabling the feature.
If a users timezone is incorrect, eg. User A in Dublin is assigned a US timezone, this can be used to manipulate the system, however, risk is low, as the learner will not receive a notification to answer until the appropriate time relevant to the US time zone.
For team leaderboards, this logic is still applied to each participant within a team, which in turn also applies to a 'team tiebreak'.
If tie-breaks are not enabled, multiple users will be tied if they have the same score.
Enabling Tie-Breaks
You can toggle the 'Enable tie-breaks' option on the Program tab. Select your desired Qstream and select 'Leaderboard' on the left hand side:
Make sure to click 'Save' after changing the toggle.
